Wisley Lane bridge opens from Monday 11 November
From this Monday Wisley Lane bridge over the A3 will be open. The new one mile stretch will help improve access and journeys along Wisley Lane, to Wisley Village and onwards to Woking. This stretch of road will also provide access to the RHS Wisley Gardens.
Drivers wishing to access the gardens should use the new Wisley Lane from 11 November, turning on the left between the A3 southbound off slip road and Ockham Lane North (B2039) then onto and across the new Wisley Bridge, following the brown signs.

November milestones
The M25 Junction 10 improvement project reaches not one, but two big milestones this coming month.
This weekend sees the installation of the longest bridge on the project Clearmount bridge. It’s being lifted into place tomorrow night (Saturday 2 November) – so the M25 will be closed between junctions 10 and 11 from 9pm until 10am Sunday morning.
The original Clearmount bridge was demolished back in March, when we closed the M25 for the the first time this year.
The other big news for November is that Wisley Lane bridge across the A3 will open on 11 November.
It means we are closing the existing access both off and onto the A3 at Wisley Lane permanently and opening the new safer Wisley Lane bridge.
If you’re travelling southbound on the A3 access to Wisley - including RHS Wisley - will be via the new Wisley Lane turning on the left between the A3 southbound off slip road and Ockham Lane North (B2039) then onto and across the new Wisley Bridge.
If you’re travelling northbound on the A3 access to Wisley will be via the M25 junction 10 gyratory to turnaround and travel southbound following the instructions as above.

Closures on Saturday 2 November
Our gyratory work at junction 10 - which involved closing slip roads on and off the junction for two full weekends this month went extremely well and we thank everyone for taking notice of our warnings about using the junction differently during our weekend work.
Even better news is we no longer need to close slip roads off and onto the junction for a third full weekend on 2 November.
We will however still need to close the M25 between junctions 10 and 11 overnight on Saturday 2 November, so we can complete significant bridge work. This is a longer overnight closure than usual with the M25 shutting at 9pm on Saturday 2 November and reopening at 10am the following morning. Please factor this into your weekend journeys. Also please note this overnight closure involves both directions of the M25, and all slip roads on and off the M25 between junctions 10 and 11.
Our night closure on 2 November is to install the new Clearmount footbridge over the M25, the longest bridge on our project, so an exciting feature to complete on our scheme.

M25 closures - see you next year!
Thank you to everyone who changed their plans and took advice to avoid the Wisley to Chertsey stretch of the M25 last weekend while it was closed. As a result, we completed a critical piece of bridge installation and made significant progress with our improvements to junction 10.
What’s also now important is there will be no more full weekend closures of the M25/A3 this calendar year. The two remaining closures will be next spring. We will give a minimum of four weeks’ notice for these closures so you can plan ahead, and we will avoid busy holiday periods.
Please bear in mind the M25/A3 will still be closed at times over some weekends, and we will also be doing some 12 hour night closures on the M25 through the autumn.
If you’d like to see more about what we did during last weekend's closure head to our page where we tell the story behind the closures.
Please check the ‘Upcoming closures’ section below for all our weeknight closures and lane restrictions so you can plan your journeys.
Thanks again for your patience!

14 July 2024
M25 junction 10 - 11 open to traffic ahead of schedule
We reopened both carriageways over 7 hours ahead of schedule after installing the west bridge and a superspan gantry.
This weekend's works mirrored our second full closure in May, when we installed the bridge on the east side of the junction.
Thank you for bearing with us during the work. We're very grateful to all of you who took our advice, avoided the closure and completed your journeys in other ways.

17 June 2024
Announcing our third full weekend closure
We can confirm that the M25 between junctions 10 and 11 will be closed from 9pm Friday 12 July to 6am Monday 15 July 2024.
We need to close the motorway to install a new bridge on the roundabout at Junction 10.
Only travel if necessary
We’re grateful to all drivers who avoided previous closures and completed their journeys in other ways. We urge you to do the same again.
If you do travel, expect delays and please leave a lot of extra time for your journey.
Diversion route
The local diversion route is the same for both directions:
Junction 10 to Junction 11
North bound A3 to Painshill Junction, A245 towards Woking, and then A320 to M25 Junction 11.
Junction 11 to Junction 10
A320 south towards Woking, A245 towards Byfleet and Painshill junction, Southbound A3 to Junction 10.
Avoiding the closure by taking the M25 via the Dartford Crossing may also be quicker.
-
15 April 2024
Announcing our second full weekend closure
We can confirm that the M25 will be shut between junctions 9 (A243 Leatherhead) and 10 (A3 Wisley) from 9pm Friday 10 May to 6am Monday 13 May 2024.
This full closure is needed to install a new bridge.
Only travel if necessary
We’re grateful to all drivers last time who avoided the closure and completed their journeys in other ways. We urge you to do the same again.
Diversion routes
A 19-mile diversion route will be in place which uses the A3 and the A240.
Please follow the diversion and don’t follow your SatNav.
Clockwise diversion for all but over-height vehicles:
- leave M25 at junction 8, A217 (Reigate)
- follow the A217 London, Sutton, (A240) Kingston
- after 3½ miles turn left onto the A240 Epsom, Kingston
- after 3 miles at the Esso roundabout, turn right onto the A24 (A240) Kingston
- continue for 3 miles and at the Tolworth interchange turn left onto the A3 Portsmouth, Guildford
- continue for 9½ miles to the M25 and re-join the motorway at junction 10
Anticlockwise diversion for all but over-height vehicles:
- leave M25 at junction 10 to join the A3 towards London
- after 9½ miles at the Tolworth interchange leave the A3 turning right onto the A240 Epsom, Reigate
- continue for 3 miles to the Esso roundabout and turn left onto the A240 Reigate
- continue for 3 miles then turn right onto the A217 Reigate, M25
- after 3½ miles turn left to re-join the M25 motorway at junction 8.
Drivers using the signed diversion route won’t be subject to any Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) charges that may usually apply. The Ultra Low Emission Zone will remain in force on all other routes in London across the weekend.
If you're driving an over-height vehicle you must follow a different diversion route to avoid a low bridge. This is your route:
Further closures
We intend to close the M25 for three more weekends this year.
There will be no weekend closures in June.
The remaining closures will take place between July and the end of 2024.

01 March 2024
More details about our M25 closure
Last weekend we closed the A3 for a full weekend and demolished two bridges.
Our next weekend closure will be for more demolition work, this time on the M25.
It means the M25 between junctions 10 and 11 will be closed in both directions from 9pm on Friday 15 to 6am Monday 18 March.
Diversion routes
The local diversion route below will be in place which is the same for both directions:
- Junction 10 - Junction 11: North bound A3 to Painshill Junction, A245 towards Woking, and then A320 to M25 Junction 11.
- Junction 11 - Junction 10: A320 south towards Woking, A245 towards Byfleet and Painshill junction, Southbound A3 to Junction 10.
Taking the M25 in the other direction to avoid our closure is also an option.
Either way, if you do travel, please leave a lot of extra time for your journey.
We carefully plan all our closures to limit disruption, but sometimes it's not possible to carry out all the work that's needed without a closure. We have planned all our closures to avoid holiday periods and key events in the area.
The work needs to be carried out now to continue the good progress on the delivery of the scheme which is due to open to traffic next summer.

31 January 2024
Announcing our next big closures
Last weekend we completed Sandpit Hill bridge, the third of our eight bridges.
It will be a few weeks before the bridge can be used as we still need to surface it, build the approach embankments and create the routes leading between Ockham Common, the bridge itself and Chatley Wood. Check back on this web page for when the bridge is available for use.
We're now moving to a phase of work that involves some significant closures of the A3 and the M25.
Please remember that closure details can change at short notice. For the most up-to-date information, please visit our daily closures page.
-
24 January 2024
Completion of our third bridge
This weekend sees the completion of the third of our eight bridges, which is Sandpit Hill bridge that will link Painshill to Ockham Common. At 91 metres long, this will be the longest bridge we will install on the project, and it will cross the M25 to the east of junction 10.
Sandpit Hill bridge is for pedestrians, cyclists, and horse riders to safely travel between Ockham Common and Painshill. This is part of a new 5km route that will connect with many existing paths, tracks and bridleways that crisscross Wisley and Ockham Commons.
We’ve been building the bridge supports that will carry the new bridge across the M25, and we’re now ready to install the second piece of the platform to complete the installation.

16 October 2023
Wisley Lane bridge beams installed
Good news – we’ve successfully installed all ten pre-cast concrete beams for our new bridge over the A3 at Wisley Lane.
Our teams worked around the clock all weekend while the road was closed to get everything in place and reach this important milestone. This meant manoeuvring a 750 tonne crane onto each carriageway in turn and lifting all of the 80 tonne beams into position.
In the future, this bridge will provide a new, safer route for walkers, cyclists, horse riders and drivers between the A3 Ockham Park junction and Wisley Lane.
Wisley Lane is the second of eight new bridges to have its beams installed in the last three months. The first one was down at Stratford Brook where this same route will travel across the smallest bridge on our scheme and meet up with the roundabout at Ockham Park.
We understand there’s never a good time to do roadworks and the impact this has on the people who live near or travel through our work.
Thank you for your patience over the last few days while we’ve been making our improvements.
Project information
The story of the M25 junction 10 project
The M25 junction 10 project profile page tells the story of our ongoing work during 2024/25 to transform the junction and surrounding area.
Forthcoming closures
B2039 Ockham Road North
Our closure on the northbound B2039 Ockham Road North to carry utility works and alterations to the approach to the roundabout have been removed until Thursday 19 September. This is to facilitate the SGN works on the A247 Clandon Road.
Roadworks on the A245 Continue
To ease the congestion around our works on the A245, the A3 northbound off slip at Painshill has been closed. This closure will remain in place until the end of November 2024 whilst we continue with our works in this area.
The closure of the A3 northbound off slip at Painshill helps improve the eastbound traffic flow along the A245.
To ease traffic flow in the area, we've also changed the sequencing of the traffic signals on all sides of the Painshill roundabout to favour the flow eastbound on the A245.
We apologise for the inconvenience this is causing.
More information on A245 Byefleet Road works.
These closures coincide with other ongoing improvements on the network including the installation of additional emergency areas on the
- M25 J23-27
- M25 J5-7
- M4 J10-12
- M3 J2-4a
- M20 J3-5
More information on emergency area retrofits.
Local diversions will be in place. Drivers should look to re-route or re-time their journeys. Please plan ahead.
We will do all we can to keep disruption to a minimum, but there may be delays at peak times, so we encourage you to plan your journey.
You can follow National Highways @highwaysseast and https://www.facebook.com/HighwaysSEast . Please re-share posts on your channels and with your audiences to help increase awareness of our works.

DCO requirements documents
The Development Consent Order (DCO) process was established by the Planning Act 2008 and is used for certain large and complex schemes that have been designated as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) by the Government.
The Secretary of State for Transport granted the Development Consent Order (DCO) for the M25 junction 10/A3 Wisley interchange improvements on 12 May 2022.
Links to key DCO documentation can be found below:
- Examining Authority’s report and recommendations to the Secretary of State for Transport
- Secretary of State for Transport’s decision letter and statement of reasons
- Development Consent Order as made by the Secretary of State for Transport
You can view our full Development Consent Order application on the Planning Inspectorate website.
Current scheme plans and documents are listed at Article 45 in Schedule 11.
Development Consent Order – Requirements Register
Requirements are planning conditions included in the DCO that relate to all or part of the works. They each require documents to be prepared, consulted upon by defined organisations and submitted to the Secretary of State for approval. These processes are referred to here and in the DCO as “discharging” the requirements.
This Requirements Register is a live document and will be updated as the process to discharge the requirements progresses.
The latest version will always be published below:
View the Requirements Register.
This register will be maintained for three years following completion of the project. The register sets out:
- each requirement
- whether the requirement needs approval by the Secretary of State (or other duty holder)
